Kenta	Rachel, why are there candles in your window? Is that for Christmas?
Rachel	No, it's for Hanukkah. My family is Jewish.
Kenta	Hanukkah? I've heard the name, but I don't know much about it.
Rachel	It's the Festival of Lights. It lasts for eight nights.
Kenta	Eight nights? Why so long?
Rachel	There's an old story. A little oil burned for eight days in the Temple.
Kenta	Wow. But I count four candles and one more on top.
Rachel	Tonight is the fourth night. The one on top is the shamash. It lights the others.
Kenta	That's cool. Do you get presents, too?
Rachel	Sometimes. But my favorite part is the food. My dad makes latkes.
Kenta	Latkes? What are those?
Rachel	Fried potato pancakes. Come in and try some! We can play dreidel after dinner.
