英語でほめるコツ

  • 「何が」良かったかを添える:Good job! だけで終わらせず、Good job! Your opinion is very clear. のように具体的なひと言を足すと、生徒は「次も何をすればいいか」がわかります。コメントメーカーは、この「ほめ言葉+具体的なポイント」を自動で組み立てます。(例:Great job! Your details make the story come alive.)
  • 能力より「努力・やり方」をほめる:「頭がいいね」より「よくがんばったね」「工夫したね」。能力をほめられた子どもは失敗を恐れて挑戦を避けやすくなり、努力をほめられた子どもは難しい課題にも挑み続けた、という有名な研究があります(Mueller & Dweck, 1998)。「努力・がんばり」「積極性・チャレンジ」カテゴリが使えます。(例:You worked really hard on this.)
  • サンドイッチで伝える:直してほしいことは、ほめる → 次の一歩 → はげます の順で。最初と最後が前向きなので、アドバイスが素直に届きます。コメントメーカーの「サンドイッチ」モードで一発作成。(例:Nice work! Try to add a reason with "because." Keep it up!)
  • 毎回同じ言葉にしない:「いつも Excellent!」だと、生徒は読まなくなります。「ノート点検モード」は、まだ使っていない表現を順番に出してくれるので、40冊のノートにも全部ちがうコメントが書けます。言いかえラダーで温度感の使い分けも。(例:Stellar! / Top-notch! / You nailed it!)
  • 生徒が読める英語で:コメントは「読んでもらって」はじめて意味があります。中1・中2には やさしい英語 フィルター(中学生でもわかる表現だけ)がおすすめ。慣れないうちは日本語を添えても OK です。(例:You never gave up! (最後まであきらめなかったね!))
  • 声かけは「すぐ・短く・名前つき」:授業中のほめ言葉は、その場ですぐ、短く。Good point, Ken! のように名前を添えると効果が倍増します。「声かけボード」を電子黒板に出しておけば、ボタン1つでネイティブ音声とともに盛り上げられます。(例:Bingo! / Good catch! / Tell me more!)
  • ノートを「対話」にする:日記や作文には、評価だけでなく読み手としての感想(共感)や質問を返すと、生徒は次も書きたくなります(ダイアローグ・ジャーナル)。「共感・感想」「問いかけコメント」カテゴリを使ってみましょう。(例:That sounds like fun! Who did you go with?)
  • ほめるだけで終わらせない:フィードバック研究では、「えらいね」のような人へのほめ言葉より、課題ややり方についての具体的な情報の方が学びにつながりやすいとされています(Hattie & Timperley, 2007)。ほめ言葉+具体的な次の目標をセットにしましょう。(例:Excellent! Next goal: speak for one minute without stopping.)
  • 生徒どうしでもほめ合う:ほめ言葉は先生だけのものではありません。一覧表を印刷して配れば、ペアワークの後に Nice idea! / Good job! と言い合う「ほめ言葉ハンドブック」になります。練習クイズで覚えてから使うと定着します。(例:Tell your partner, "Good job!")
