Olivia	Daiki, tomorrow is a holiday, right? What is it?
Daiki	It's National Foundation Day. It's like Japan's birthday.
Olivia	Like the Fourth of July? When was Japan founded?
Daiki	That's the interesting part. Nobody really knows.
Olivia	Really? Then where does the date come from?
Daiki	From an old book. It says the first emperor started ruling on New Year's Day.
Olivia	But New Year's Day is January 1.
Daiki	It was the old calendar. In the 1870s, they changed it to February 11.
Olivia	I see. So is it a big celebration, like fireworks?
Daiki	Not really. The government doesn't even have a ceremony.
Olivia	Why not?
Daiki	People have different opinions about it because of its history before the war.
Olivia	That's interesting. In the U.S., some holidays are like that too.
Daiki	Anyway, I'm going skiing tomorrow. Want to come?
