Only about 2.5 percent of the water on Earth is fresh water.
Teacher Talk |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| “This bottle is all the water on Earth.” “How much of it can we drink? Guess.” “More than 96 percent is salt water in the oceans.” |
| “Fresh water is only about 2.5 percent.” “What is 2.5 percent of 2 liters?” “Yes, 50 milliliters. This small cup is all the fresh water.” |
| “About 70 percent of fresh water is ice and snow.” “So we take away 35 milliliters.” “River water is less than one drop!” |
| “Explain the bottle to your partner.” “Use the three sentences on the card.” “Now change roles.” |
| “World Water Day is on March 22.” “Let's say it together. "Every drop counts."” “Next time you turn on the tap, think about this bottle.” |
World Water Day(March 22)💧 2 L = all the water on Earth salt water(oceans):more than 96% fresh water:about 2.5% → 50 mL about 70% of it:ice and snow → 35 mL river water:0.006% of fresh water → less than one drop Only about 2.5 percent of the water on Earth is fresh water. Most of it is frozen in ice. So every drop is important. Every drop counts.
World Water Day · Worksheet L2
If I didn't have to carry water, I could ~.
Teacher Talk |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| “Read paragraph 3. Who carries water in many homes?” “In 53 countries, women and girls spend 250 million hours a day on this work.” “That is time they cannot use for school or jobs.” |
| “You carry water for two hours every day.” “How many hours is that in one year? Use your calculator.” “730 hours. That is about 30 days!” |
If I didn't have to carry water, I could ~. | “Think about Asha in the story.” “If I didn't have to carry water, I could go to school on time.” “Write three sentences about your own life.” |
| “The 2026 message is "Where water flows, equality grows."” “What does it mean? Talk in your group.” “The theme in 1995 was women and water. Why is it back in 2026?” |
| “Read one of your sentences to the class.” “What does the message mean to your group?” “Please hand in your sheet.” |
World Water Day 2026:Where water flows, equality grows. 53 countries:women and girls → 250 million hours a day carrying water (men and boys の3倍以上) 250 million hours ≒ 28,500 years — every day 2 hours × 7 days = 14 hours 2 hours × 365 days = 730 hours(about 30 days) If I didn't have to carry water, I could ___. (仮定法過去:didn't have to / could + 動詞の原形) 1995:Women and water → 2026:gender again
