1Text 1: The water cycle
Water on the Earth moves in a cycle. The sun heats water in seas, rivers, and lakes, and the water evaporates. It becomes water vapor and rises into the sky. When the vapor cools, it condenses and forms clouds. When the clouds become heavy, water falls as rain or snow. This is called precipitation. The water flows into rivers and goes back to the sea, or it goes into the ground. Then the cycle starts again. The amount of water on the Earth does not change much, but most of it is salt water. Only a small part of the water on the Earth is fresh water, and only a small part of that fresh water is easy for people to use.
