参As a short speechスピーチ・英作文
Yuki tsumugi is a silk fabric with a very long history, made mainly in the city of Yuki in Ibaraki Prefecture and in Oyama in Tochigi Prefecture. What makes it special is how much of the work is done by hand. First, silk cocoons are boiled and stretched into a soft material called mawata, or silk floss.
Then the thread is pulled out and twisted by hand, without a machine. To make the patterns, workers tie small sections of the thread so that they will not take the dye. Finally, the cloth is woven on a jibata, a low loom where the weaver uses their own body to keep the threads tight. A single roll of cloth can take months.
The result is fabric that is light, soft and very warm. In 1956 the technique was designated an important intangible cultural property in Japan, and in 2010 it was added to UNESCO's list of intangible cultural heritage. I find it amazing that such a slow way of working still survives today.

In one line
In 30 seconds
As a short speech
Questions people actually ask
QIf it's so expensive, why can't you wear it to a wedding?
AIn kimono rules, tsumugi is a woven fabric that started as everyday wear, so it is seen as casual, no matter how much it costs. For formal events, people usually choose kimono made from dyed fabric with family crests. Rules are a little more relaxed now, but many people still follow this.
QWhat does tsumugi mean?
ATsumugi comes from a word meaning to spin thread. It refers to cloth woven from thread spun from silk floss or waste silk, which gives it a slightly rough, natural feel.
A common misunderstanding
MYTHThe most expensive kimono is always the most formal one.
FACTPrice and formality are different things. A Yuki tsumugi kimono can cost a great deal, but it is still treated as stylish casual wear.

Background
