Shaho hassetsu is the set of eight steps every kyudo archer follows for each shot.
Shaho hassetsu means "the eight stages of shooting" in kyudo, Japanese archery. It breaks one shot into eight steps, from setting your feet to the moment after the arrow is gone. Beginners often spend weeks or months practicing them before they shoot at a real target. The idea is that a good shot comes from correct form and a calm mind, not from aiming hard.
参As a short speechスピーチ・英作文
In kyudo, Japanese archery, every single shot follows the same eight steps, called shaho hassetsu. First you set your feet, then you settle your body and hold the bow ready. Next, you raise the bow above your head and draw it down and apart. Then comes kai, the full draw, where you hold still for a few seconds.
Only then is the arrow released, and the last stage is zanshin, the moment after the shot when you keep your form and your focus. What surprises many people is that hitting the target is only part of the goal. In kyudo, the shot is judged by how it is done, so a hit with bad form is not considered a good shot.
That's why beginners often spend their first months practicing the movements with a rubber band or at a straw target just a few feet away. I find this idea interesting, because it says that the process matters as much as the result.
射法八節しゃほうはっせつshaho hassetsuthe eight stages of shooting in kyudo
In one line
In 30 seconds
As a short speech
Questions people actually ask
QWhat are the eight stages called?
AThey are ashibumi, dozukuri, yugamae, uchiokoshi, hikiwake, kai, hanare and zanshin. Roughly, that's footing, posture, readying the bow, raising, drawing, full draw, release and follow-through.
QWhy is the full draw held for so long?
AKai is where everything comes together. You wait until your body and mind are settled, and the release is supposed to happen naturally, not because you decide to let go.

Background
