Asa no kai and kaeri no kai are short class meetings that open and close the school day.
Asa no kai, the morning meeting, and kaeri no kai, the end-of-day meeting, are short homeroom sessions held in many Japanese schools, especially elementary schools. Students on duty for the day usually run them, checking who's absent, going over the schedule, or talking about what went well, and the teacher adds a few words at the end. It's a daily way to practice speaking in front of the class and running a meeting.
参As a short speechスピーチ・英作文
In many Japanese elementary schools, the day begins and ends with a short class meeting. The morning one is called asa no kai, and the afternoon one is kaeri no kai. What surprises people from other countries is that children, not the teacher, usually lead them. The students on duty that day, called nitchoku, stand at the front and say, "Please stand.
Good morning." Then they go through a simple program. It might include checking attendance, a health check, the day's goals, a short speech by one student, or a song. In kaeri no kai, the class looks back on the day, hears reminders about homework, and says goodbye together.
The content is different from school to school and even from class to class. Some people remember these meetings fondly, while others remember long talks about who broke the rules. Personally, I think they taught me how to speak in front of a group without much fear.

In one line
In 30 seconds
As a short speech

Background
