参As a short speechスピーチ・英作文
At a traditional Japanese wedding, you may notice that the mothers of the bride and groom are wearing very similar black kimono. These are called kurotomesode, the most formal kimono for married women. The top half is plain black, and the colorful designs, like cranes, pine trees or flowers, appear only near the bottom.
There are also five small family crests: one on the back, one on the back of each sleeve, and one on each side of the chest. The more crests a kimono has, the more formal it is, and five is the highest. The name tomesode is often explained as "sleeves that have been shortened."
Young unmarried women wear furisode, with long swinging sleeves, and the shorter sleeves of tomesode are said to show that a woman is married. There's also irotomesode, a colored version that unmarried women can wear too. These days, many families rent a tomesode for the day instead of buying one, since they're expensive and only worn on special occasions.

In 30 seconds
As a short speech

Background
